Only 9 nine cases were tried by the Mayor during the paat week. Judge Buxton is holding Halifax court this week and Judge McKoy is boldiog Richmond county court. Jn. Ileaton, Clerk of the Superior Court of New Uanover county, is in Washington, so we are informed. Two thousand feet of hose for the fire department, ordered tome ten days ago by the city, have boen received. Yesterday was a beautiful day. It could not have been better for memori al services and decorating tbe graves of the brave dead. The new Board of Aldermen take charge of the city on the first day of June next, consequently the term of present Board expires on that day. Tho foundation of a bridge, which was being constructed near Halifax, by the IV. A V. 11. R. Company, was washed away by the freshet, on Tuesday la-t. The new proprietor of the street cars intends to give the cars a thorough overhauling, and have them put in first class order, and run on regular sched ule time. A friend writing to us from Fayette ville, says of the recent municipal elec tion in that place: The reconciliation, Hayes-Hampton ticket has been elected Hurrah for Hayes. Dr. A. E. Wright is getting the Health Department thoroughly organ ized. We are glad to see it, there is certainly room for great improvement on the old system. It is reported that Ike Young, our Revenue Collector, has had a fortune left him by some of his relatives. We Hope it i true, for Ike is better fitted to spend a fortune than any one we know of. Everybody and their friends should patronize the streetcars, as it would be a great inconvenience to loose them out of the city, which we certainly will do unless our people ride more and walk less. Capt. I. B. Grainger, Receiver ol the Carolina Central Railway Company and Pretddcut of the Bank of New Hanover, left on Tuesday evening last for New York. Capt. Murchison, of the firm of William A Murchison, accompanied Cap'.. Graitigor. An excursion party of the business men of Cincinnati, Ohio, will probably be in this city on Saturday or Monday. Our business men should make arrange ments for them and have them treated a our merchantshnow eo well how to treat their guests. All Justices of the Peace in New Hanover county are required by the act retting the Criminal Court to return ' th papers in the criminal cae as toon a t N.iniined by tbem, with their find ing in the case, to the Clerk of the Crin Hal Court at the court house. Ju !.;e Edward Cantwell has been in vited aud will deliver an address to the Wilmington Rifle Company, at their at.nual meeting ou the -id of May, in the Theatre, in this city. We advise the boys t:ot to bake bands with him, if they da well they will know afterwards. Mr. J. J.
